NME: 1.5 stars
Baz Luhrmann strikes again directing another clunker that's both bad and boring. At first I tried to be open minded since this movie has gotten so many bad reviews. It didn't seem that bad at first. I like both Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman and the cinematography was pretty. After about 30 minutes, I started to get bored. Worse yet, the tone of the movie was really weird. It was sort of dealing with the serious topic of the maltreatment of the aborigines but then the actors were directed to overact, as if they were acting in the stage version of the Music Man. This movie is not recommended. I fell asleep several times while watching it and it made no sense.
