Revolutionary Road

NME: 3 stars
I had high hopes for this movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, which was directed by Winslet's husband Sam Mendes. It disappointed me somewhat, but I would still recommend it. The movie centers on a couple who are bored by suburbia and this boredom causes them to engage in raging fights that seem way overdone. The acting in the movie seemed like it was better suited for the theater. The characters were really hot and cold and explosive without much rhyme or reason as to why. Kate Winslet wasn't as bad as Leonardo DiCaprio in this regard. He would really start screaming like a maniac during their fight scenes without much build-up.

Though her American accent was weird again, Winslet looks really gorgeous in the movie. Some of her movies call her to play roles where she doesn't showcase how pretty she is. She actually was better looking than DiCaprio in this film. More importantly, they had a lot of chemistry and you could easily picture them together.

The movie reminded me a little bit of the show Mad Men, except I like watching Mad Men a lot more, since it's more subtle. This was too over the top for me. I gave it 3 stars because it kept my attention and there were a lot of good scenes in the movie. I recommend it but don't go into it expecting an uplifting movie or an Oscar worthy film.
